The exhibition is based on interviews with contemporary witnesses, which have been compiled in collaboration with the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Research (HAIT) and the filmmaker Theo Thiesmeier since summer 2022. The main focus was on the biographies, the very different personal experiences of the contemporary witnesses involved, on the course of events around 1989, which culminated in the closure of "VEB Pentacon" and its successor company in autumn 1990. Careers, professional practice, working conditions, the organisation of everyday life, conflicts and decisions in the professional environment, dramatic biographical breaks and successful attempts at reorientation are reflected on in detail. The exhibition presents the memories of the former "Pentacon employees" in the form of a multimedia installation, including historical furnishings from the production environment, representing the fate of several thousand former employees.
