From sound to music!
Holiday workshop
How is sound actually produced? Why do instruments sound different? And how does a loudspeaker work?
In this holiday programme organised by DLR_School_Lab and the Klippel Foundation, you’ll get to the bottom of these questions together with other pupils. Bring your own musical instrument and discover fascinating acoustic phenomena through listening, measuring with your smartphone and hands-on experiments.
Together, you’ll explore acoustic concepts and even build the simplest loudspeaker there is. This way, you’ll learn about the technology behind sound and music in a fun and engaging way. The expertise and guidance come from acousticians Wolfgang Klippel and Wolfgang Böhm.
- This programme is aimed at pupils aged 12 and over who love music, enjoy experimenting or are simply curious about how sound works.

Alice von Gwinner and Uli Seis have invented some very special colouring pages. These are coloured in with coloured pencils, then scanned using an app and turned into animated films. Straight afterwards, you can admire your very own animated film, set within the picture you’ve just coloured in. The ‘Mitmalfilm’ concept has won several awards. It’s sure to amaze when your very first animated film comes to life

Playdough, Fruit & Code: Programming controllers and instruments with the Makey Makey
Holiday workshop for girls as part of Code Week

Fruit, modelling clay or pencil drawings: you can turn the world around you into a controller! This makes a mouse, keyboard and touchscreen redundant. The small circuit board, its circuits and plug connections make it all possible. With just a few lines of code, you can create a banana piano, build a gaming controller out of play dough or make a poster come to life. The main thing is that it conducts electricity! You don’t need any prior knowledge – just the desire to let your creativity run wild.

3D printing for beginners: Design and print your first model
Holiday workshop for girls as part of Code Week
In this one-day workshop, you’ll discover the world of 3D design. You’ll learn how to design your own digital models using TinkerCAD, a free online tool for creative 3D design. Unlike traditional drawing, here you’ll be working with shapes in space, which you’ll assemble to create your own figure. In the process, you’ll learn the basics of design, how to position and manipulate objects, and how to prepare your figure for 3D printing.
As well as gaining a wealth of knowledge, you can even take your finished model home with you – either as a 3D-printed object or as a file to tinker with further.
The workshop is ideal for all girls who fancy getting creative with digital design and want to gain their first experience with 3D software.
