Why does a violin sound different from a guitar? How is sound created in the first place? And how does a loudspeaker work?

In the holiday programme offered by DLR_School_Lab TU Dresden and the Klippel Foundation, you can immerse yourself in the exciting world of acoustics and get to the bottom of these questions. Bring an instrument and find out how technology and music interact: by listening carefully, taking measurements with your smartphone and conducting practical experiments.

Investigate acoustic phenomena, learn about their basics and then build the world's simplest loudspeaker! You will be accompanied by acoustics experts Wolfgang Klippel and Wolfgang Böhm, who will bring their expertise directly from the field.

How do you actually build a circuit? How does soldering work? Together we will take our first steps in the world of soldering and learn the basics of electrical circuits quickly and easily. You will then solder your own LED gyroscope from electronic components.

Together, we’ll explore the evolution from the punch card to music streaming and learn how to transform music into rhythmic light effects. You’ll build your very own LED light organ, which reacts to sounds and lights up to the beat of your favourite songs. It’s entirely up to you to decide what your light show will look like!

Would you like to spend a few active and creative summer holidays together with other young people from Germany and Poland? Then you are cordially invited to our German-Polish Summer Camp 2026!

The camp is organised by DLR_School_Lab TU Dresden and will be held together with a Polish partner association from Wrocław. You can expect a week full of science, nature, film and international encounters.

You can put together your own programme at the camp. We offer you a wide range of workshops, experiments and activities - you decide what you want to do. Perhaps you would like to investigate water and vegetation in the surrounding area, build a solar oven or construct vehicles that run on renewable energy? Or you can try out creative activities such as felting, making natural cosmetics or building bat houses. If you like being outdoors, you can take part in a field game, go fishing or observe animals on an evening walk. And for all film enthusiasts, there is the opportunity to make your own short film: from the shooting schedule to camera work and editing. There will also be language animations, a day trip planned by you and cosy evenings around the campfire with film nights together.

For all creative and curious girls* aged 12 to 16, there is a special highlight at the Dresden Technology Collections during the summer holidays. In this intensive course at the DLR School Lab, you will become directors and researchers at the same time!

You will carry out exciting experiments or find a scientific problem that you have always wanted to solve.

Your findings or the solution to your problem form the basis for your film script. You will have the opportunity to create your own animated film from scratch and turn scientific phenomena into moving images.

The course is aimed at anyone who likes to get to the bottom of things and has a spirit of discovery. In addition to the creative process, the focus is also on the idea of community: not only do you produce your own work, but you also make a contribution that others can benefit from - by sharing knowledge in a clear and entertaining way.

In this 3-day course, you will tinker, build and finally switch on the light! As a team, you will design and build your own small lamp prototype according to your wishes and ideas. A prototype is an early, ready-to-use model in the design process and can be easily realised with cardboard. We will show you how to do this and look forward to your creative ideas!

With simple materials, tools, LEDs and a little creativity, you can create a real designer piece step by step. The technique remains easy: we solder, glue and work with LED lights, which are perfect for DIY projects. You don't need any previous knowledge - just a desire to build something with your own hands.
