Over 100 play and experiment stations awaken curiosity about maths. In »Epsilon – Erlebnisland für Kleine«, children aged 3 to 8 discover their own mathematical world of numbers, shapes and patterns. A co-operation with the Department of Mathematics at the Technical University of Dresden.

Join in, think, marvel

Science, which is not loved by everyone, becomes playful fun for young and old. Walk-in musical instruments, a climbing sculpture and the giant soap bubble entice the players to immerse themselves in the dimensions of mathematical systems and their aesthetics. Puzzles and puzzles lure them onto the trail of mathematical proofs. By drawing ornaments and on an archaeological excavation site, they explore the mathematical basis of culture and science.

Maths in conversation

Mathematics in Conversation is a series of dialogues organised by Erlebnisland Mathematik. Three to four times a year, Prof Dr Andreas Thom (TU Dresden) welcomes mathematicians who present their current research topics and their areas of application in a clear and entertaining way. The audience experiences science at first hand and also learns interesting facts about the motivations, ideas and career paths of the guests in conversation.

Mathematics without boundaries

Together with schools from Usti nad Labem and the surrounding area, the Dresden Technology Collections are inviting young people to come together to experience mathematics. When visiting the exhibition together, the universal language of mathematics promotes exchange between young people from Saxony and the Czech Republic and openness to the similarities in knowledge culture.

Board game day for Maths Day

Games afternoon with the FSR Mathematics of the TU Dresden

For the Day of Mathematics, the Erlebnisland Mathematik and the FSR Mathematik of the TU Dresden invite you to a board game day at the MACHwerk of the Dresden Technology Collections.

Registration is not necessary, just come along and bring your own games.

The SET card game and arithmetic sequences

Maths in conversation

SET is a card game with 81 cards in which you have to find three cards that fulfil certain rules as quickly as possible from the cards on display. In this lecture, we will look at versions of this card game with even more cards and come across a mathematical problem involving so-called arithmetic sequences. Of course, we will also talk about this problem and examine current mathematical research results.

Lisa Sauermann is a mathematics professor at the University of Bonn and conducts research in the field of extremal and probabilistic combinatorics.

The discussion with Andreas Thom will also focus on her day-to-day research and her career to date.

  • With Prof Dr Andreas Thom (TU Dresden)
  • Guest: Prof Dr Lisa Sauermann (University of Bonn)

Experience maths

Individual tour with a short introduction

In Erlebnisland Mathematik, you will get to know the world of maths in a fun and stimulating way. Where is maths hidden in our everyday lives? Where do we encounter it so unconsciously that we (re)discover it with the help of Erlebnisland? Maths is much more than just numbers and arithmetic. Walk-in musical instruments, a climbing sculpture, the giant soap bubble and lots of puzzles awaken curiosity and fun in the order and proofs of maths.

Museum admission for school groups: €3 per person
