Everything is a wave – let’s go wave-riding! Our interactive exhibition is all about the fascinating world of light and sound waves.

In the opto-acoustic experiment area, you can playfully discover how light is created, how it travels and how it is broken down into colours – and how sound waves enable us to hear music and perceive sounds.

Although we see light and hear sound, both waveforms have a surprising number of similarities; for example, they can be reflected, refracted and superimposed.

But can you also hear light and see sounds? How do you play football with light or create sounds simply by moving your hands in the air?

These are just a few of the more than 50 interactive and amazing experiments awaiting curious researchers of all ages at WELLENREITER.

Cat QA quantum adventure for school classes

A cute, half-dead cat has disappeared! Her trail leads to the "Cat Q" escape room of the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat at the Universities of Würzburg and Dresden. The mysterious box with four puzzling rooms turns a famous thought experiment in quantum physics into a very real experience!

Teachers have the opportunity to awaken enthusiasm for physics and redefine teaching in the "quantum flat". It is modelled on the multi-award-winning app "Cat Q - A Quantum Adventure". The digital game is brought into the real world and reaches a new level. And the best thing is: you don't have to be a physics or maths genius to do it.

All texts in the Escape Room are also available in English.

Bookable Tuesday to Friday at 9:30 and 11:00
Friday additionally bookable at 12.30
Cost: €5 per person (incl. museum admission, accompanying person). Free admission for accompanying persons
