Researching and reading – as a specialised academic library with a reference collection, the library of the Museums of the City of Dresden supports the museum research of all institutions of the museum network and is equally open to all interested parties.

Collection

With over 10,000 volumes and periodicals, a comprehensive range of literature on central aspects of Dresden's past and present is available.

With publications on the general history of technology, photography, computing and office technology, electronics, entertainment technology and household technology, the library offers a comprehensive range of media. Titles from the fields of photographic and cinema technology, photochemistry and photophysics as well as artistic photography are a focal point of the collection. The first German-language journal »Photographisches Journal« (1854 – 1863) is available as well as the »Photographisches Wochenblatt« (1878 – 1890) and the »Photographische Correspondenz« (1879 – 1953).

OPAC

The library holdings can be searched via  OPAC or sent by mail / telephone. On Thursdays, reserved literature can be viewed in the library's reading room by appointment. 

Reading room

The reading room is located on the first floor of the Landhaus on Pirnaischer Platz and can be reached via the Landhausstraße museum entrance.

We are happy to make it possible for users with limited mobility to visit the library after prior notification by mail or telephone.

The reading room is equipped with:

  1. WLAN
  2. six workstations
  3. one computer workstation for research in the OPAC
  4. microfiche reader
  5. reference works
  6. journals relevant to the collection and current periodicals

DIGITized copies

For our users, individual journal articles, articles or title pages from the library collection can be digitised on request for private and non-commercial use. We are happy to receive your enquiry on site or by email.
