Thomas Bachler. Heliographies

Opening of the cabinet exhibition to mark the 200th anniversary of the world's first photograph

Sun / 1. Feb
15:00

Heliography - or "sun drawing" - is a technique that is as variable as it is time-consuming, in which the image is created on a metal plate coated with asphalt under the influence of strong light. The Frenchman Joseph Nicéphore Niépce used this process 200 years ago to create the world's first photograph that has survived to this day.

Thomas Bachler has worked intensively with this process and used the technique of heliography for his own works. His works are shown in the exhibition.

As part of the opening, he will develop a heliograph that was previously taken from the Ernemann Tower in a long exposure.

There will also be an opportunity to talk to the artist.
